In 1964 by Richard Kyle first coined ‘graphic novel’. It is now a term widely used by readers and publishers. However, some creators say it is an unnecessary and pretentious distinction from comics. Some people call it ‘a marketing term’.
A graphic novel uses the interplay of text and illustrations in a comic-strip format to tell a story. As well as text it uses graphical elements such as panels, frames, speech/thought balloons in a sequential way to create and evoke a story in a reader’s mind.
